2017 was a big year for The Castle and Falcon. We re-opened our doors in March and launched a whole new independent music venue – with help from Harry and the Howlers, DJ Sam Redmore and nine-piece soul band The Atlantic Players kicking off the party!
Since then, we’ve had acts big and small, touring and local grace our stage. The Urban Voodoo Machine brought their bourbon soaked gypsy blues in April – an act that hit the spot as they will be back in March of this year!
Soon after we sprang back into life with Punks Alive taking over April and May, showcasing the rawest punk talent including Steve Ignorant’s Slice of Life and Subhumans.
We danced through the summer to incredible Birmingham music – celebrating 15 years of The Street’s Original Pirate Material in May with DJ’s spinning UK garage, house, R&B and of course plenty of Mike Skinner. Many upcoming acts including Muncie Girls, Speakeasy and Radio Moscow showed us what great music is right under our noses, whilst Baddies Boogie acoustic night in September showcased talent local artists.
John Power of Cast and The La’s visited us in October, supported by Jamie Croft music. Fans of these classic British bands were taken back in time with Power’s solo work of roots and acoustic music. Tom Walker played his soul-pop tracks, including hit track “Leave a Light On” in November, before Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown played out the year with electrifying rock and roll in December.
We had an eclectic mix of acts during 2017, which was just the beginning. 2018 is shaping up to just as monumental and unique in music with thanks to recent shows Mahalia, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed for Nothing and Pinkshinyultrablast.
