What a great summer its been! Everything kicked off for us with the first BBC Introducing Showcase, with leaders of the pack Ivory Wave headlining the night, showcasing the best in Brum’s talent. We also had the marvellous Sonic Gun Weekender for the second year, with headliners The Clause and Sugarthief proving their worth amongst the heavyweight champions of the Birmingham indie scene. That’s not to mention X Factor star Georgia Burgess, Two Die Das Der takeovers and the Boat To Row album fundraiser. Each act filling our venue with glorious music and feel good crowds.
Just because the summer is nearing an end, that’s not to say the fun is over. We’ve got some huge acts lined up for October, including Mercury Prize nominees and hard hitting names you need to know about.
What better way to kick the month off than with not one, not two, but three sell out gigs? Jim Bob (Carter USM), Inhaler and The Murder Capital are all gigs we’re highly anticipating, and it seems you are too as tickets flew out. We can’t wait to see what these three stellar acts bring to us!
Next up are the vintage tinged Good Cop Bad Cop, the perfect crime fighting duo to tackle bad bands infecting the airwaves. Jarringly honest indie rock, with fizzes of 80s synth and palate cleansing rock and roll riffs encapsulate Good Cop Bad Cop’s debut album released earlier this year, which you can hear live on Monday, October 14th.
Lovers of psych and all things weird and wonderful, keep your ear to the ground for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. On Friday, October 18th, these Australian psych warriors bring their new mind bending material from ‘And Now For The Whatchamacallit’ – spearheading the psych rock revival alongside Pond and Tame Impala. Tickets for this gig are running low, so don’t hang about…
In the same jam packed weekend Bang Bang Romeo embark on their biggest headline tour to date. After supporting P!nk across her world tour, the Northern trio bring peace, love and a huge soulful voice that shouldn’t be underestimated. Looking for feel good pop with a positive message, but from a band that hold their own? Catch this supercharged trio on Saturday, October 19th.
Closing the month we have Only Sun, a vibrant tropical indie band who last year released a song every month to their tribe of devoted fans. After playing The Castle and Falcon as part of the CloseUp Tour, they’re now headlining on Wednesday, August 30th with support from Birmingham’s favourite Dancing on Tables, Flares and and Outline. Finally, legendary alternative band My Vitriol are coming out of hiding for a two date UK tour, and we’re lucky enough to host one of their gigs on Thursday, October 31st. This cult indie band of the 2000’s are sure to bring nostalgia and raw noise to your night, closing off an immense month of music.
