A Wild Winter Up Ahead…

We’ve had one of the best Autumns we’ve ever at The Castle and Falcon, surely nothing can top Inhaler, The Murder Capital, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Spector? We beg to differ. Don’t let the colder nights put you off, getting involved in the best live music on this side of the Spaghetti Junction is surely one way to keep yourself warm this winter. Read on to find our what unmissable gigs we’ve got coming soon…

We’ve got a bunch of action packed gigs lined up for the last few days of November, wrapping up the month in a nice little bow. Pumarosa head our way with their electro post punk on Wednesday, November 20th, before The CloseUp Tour brings indie disco move makers Ekkah and Patawawa on Thursday, November 21st. Too Many T’s & Grieves embark on their double headline tour on Friday, November 22nd, whilst Eliza and the Bear bring new album ‘Group Therapy’ to us on Saturday, November 23rd. Not to mention Buck & Evans make their long awaited return on Friday, November 29th, whilst local band The Flow close the month off on Saturday, November 30th.

We’re incredibly happy to be involved with the Birmingham Trad Fest for another year running. The three day festival highlights all that is great with the Birmingham Irish music scene, and brings together the community with multiple music venues across Birmingham. This year, we’re hosting a day with Seamus Begley Trio on Sunday, November 24th, along with special guests The Kane Sisters, John Blake and Alfi. Tickets are running low for this year’s Trad Fest, be sure to pick yours up now.

Jumping right into the thick of it, December is already looking like another sell out month! Kicking things off are Fickle Friends on their triumphant return, bringing a bus-load of new material on Monday, December 2nd. Then on Friday, December 6th we’re joined by the ever-ecstatic folk punk six piece Skinny Lister. Better hurry, tickets for both of these gigs are running dangerously low already…

The final cherry on the cake (or star on the tree) is a Christmas party where you can expect the unexpected. Swampmeat Family Band are taking over The Castle and Falcon for a Christmas hoedown on Friday, December 20th, and there ain’t no stuffed turkey here… Join the swinging Americana and country punk revellers as they launch their brand new Christmas single, along with Robert Craig Oulton and Temple St. Resistance. Plus, The Family will be DJing rock and roll and more until late, no naff festive jumpers required.

What gig are you most looking forward to? Let us know over on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Tickets to all shows are available from The Castle and Falcon events page.

A sell out October, and we’re just getting started…

Well that was a bloody good weekend, wasn’t it? The second weekend in October saw not one, not two, but three sold-out gigs in our venue. What once was the back room in a pub is now one of the hubs of unrivalled live music in Birmingham. Were you there to be part of it?

Thursday, October 10th had been on our radar for a while, as Carter Unstoppable Sex Machine’s Jim Bob’s tickets flew out the door just hours after announcing. A night of acoustic jams, stand up humour and bubble machines kept us in high spirits, whilst Indie Rewind DJs kept the 90s nostalgia alive all night long.

On Friday, October 11th Dublin’s Inhaler stormed the stage and showed Birmingham they can hold their own. With frontman Elijah’s musical background (being related to Bono is impressive in itself) it would be easy to underestimate this quartet. However with 80s tinged synths glittering over instantly infectious guitars, pounding drums and intelligent lyrics, Inhaler took the breath from every member and oozed fresh, undeniable talent.

Last, but by no means least are another Irish offering in the form of The Murder Capital, who played on Saturday, October 12th. Spearheading the Eire’s current post punk revolution, The Murder Capital didn’t just sell out The Castle and Falcon, but their whole UK tour. This gig had true grit, companionship and roaring waves of dusky and impassioned punk hits. The Murder Capital’s debut ‘When I Have Fears’ was a cathartic journal showing how the five piece had surmounted darker times, however the future is looking bright for the breakthrough band. Off the back of Saturday’s gig, The Murder Capital have just announced a staggering 23 date UK & EU tour, and we wish them the best of luck on conquering the continent.

It’s not like us to bow out after a hat trick, trust us when we say we’re just getting started. This Friday alone sees Australia’s special brand of weird-out psych grace our shores, as Psychedelic Porn Crumpets headline our next sell out gig. Following that, Bang Bang Romeo storm the stage on Saturday, October 19th, fresh off the back of supporting P!nk on her arena tour. LA rockers Black Mountain ride through with new album ‘Destroyer’ on October 20th, Honeyblood is coming fully loaded with her Bubble Gun on October 25th, whilst Only Sun and My Vitriol close the month.

For November, FEET will be firing on all cylinders on Saturday 2nd, showcasing their debut album ‘What’s Inside Is More Than Just Ham’, continuing the crease-pop party with an official after show DJ set with us. Spector amp things up on November 7th, whilst Fatherson, De Staat and Willie J Healey are still to come.

Based on our track record, you better be quick when buying those tickets, you wouldn’t want to miss out on our biggest year to date, would you?
