Last year we had the pleasure of hosting the first ever Sonic Gun Weekender, a weekend jam packed with some of the most promising, talented and energetic bands coming from this brilliant city. Naturally, we were thrilled to host the second one, with plans to make it even bigger and better through August 16th and August 17th.
The line up is huge, and set to only get bigger. To satiate you for now, Friday sees The Pines, Faith, Candid and Karkosa (who recently brought the noise at the first ever BBC Introducing Showcase) fill up Friday’s bill, headlined by the unstoppable The Clause. After supporting The Blinders, Riscas, and The Hunna, and selling out their own headline show at the O2 Institute, The Clause are on the warpath to create a new sound for Birmingham. Harking back to 60s rock & roll, but twisting it around with a squeeze of modern feel good indie, The Clause are infectious, riotous and ready to take Birmingham by storm.
Saturday sees an all day, all night party featuring a staggering Midlands based line up. Last year’s contenders Spilt Milk Society, The Novus and Violet are to be joined by Wolfgange Harte, The Americas and Robert Craig Oulton before the headliners everyone’s been waiting for: Sugarthief. The quartet are bouncing off the back of their ‘I before E(P)’ release – a record that paints a maturing, modern romance and millennial anxiety into a mix of mellowed guitar jams, piano ballads and guitar-led fan favourite bangers. We’ve been lucky to have Sugarthief headline a gig here before, and now they’re back and armed with a whole new calibre of crowd cheering, stage invading hits.
If that’s not all, even more acts are due to be announced between now and August, secret DJ sets into the early hours and street food from Philly cheesesteak trader Meatz And Meltz, everything you need is all in one place, all in one weekend.
Last year’s Weekender was a brand new step in the right direction for Birmingham’s music scene, which is thriving more than ever before. This year Sonic Gun have released a special discounted weekend ticket, as well as tickets for Friday 16th and Saturday 17th August. All tickets are on sale now, but don’t muck about as they’re selling fast!
