Chartreuse

Chartreuse are Hattie Wilson, Mike Wagstaff, Rory Wagstaff, and Perry Lovering. Friends before they were a band, you can hear the deep understanding, intimacy and respect they have for one another; each component given its space to breath and tell its own story. Their music is born from jam sessions in their Black Country home, a cabin placed in their back garden and the site where their friendships were formed. It was here that they experimented with their own music and listened to others, drawing from Ben Howard’s darker atmospherics, Portishead’s emotional pull, and Radiohead’s back catalogue to name a few.

Lyrically, they are introspective. Taken from poems that co-vocalists Hattie and Mike write to process their lives, their lyrics are brought alive by the melodies and rhythms Perry and Rory add. Common everyday events and feelings that, when the band dig deeper, become beautiful and dark.
