Jam Baxter

Jam Baxter, member of the now infamous Contact Play and SMB crews, has been writing, recording and performing prolifically since the age of sixteen. Now twenty three, he is ready to make his mark on the scene as a solo artist with the double disc opus ‘Rinseout Friday/Spackout Monday’.

Growing up in North London, Baxter found himself instantly drawn to hip hop music and graffiti art from a very young age. In the early years of his secondary school life, painting was quickly superseded by a passion for writing rhymes, a passion which had him spitting on street corners with the 4i2i crew every weekend, and eventually led to him meeting and building with what was then the Contact Play crew and recording his first tunes. This quickly led to an affiliation with the notorious Underground Alliance crew who took him on tour with Foreign Beggars aged eighteen, cementing his love for performing live.

Upon moving to Brighton in a vain attempt to get a degree, Baxter met Mr Key who in turn introduced him to Dirty Dike and Ed Scissortongue, who were ingratiated into Contact Play alongside long time London collaborator Ronnie Bosh, who form Contact Play’s current lineup. As more tunes were written and recorded and an album began to come together, Baxter became less and less interested in studying and more deeply involved in writing bars and consuming toxic substances.
